PAM and CGS at the Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean Region and Gulf

 

The Centre for Global Studies (CGS) played a significant role in the second edition of the Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean Region and Gulf, which took place on July 11 and 12 in Marrakesh, Morocco. Organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), the Forum addressed several critical issues pertinent to the region, including macroeconomic perspectives, energy supply, ecological transition, Mediterranean protection, business financing, and the challenges of digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Members of parliament, strategic stakeholders, and academic professionals participated in the Economic Parliamentary Forum. The presence of Amb. Abdulsalam Almadani, Chairman of CGS,  underscored the Centre for Global Studies’ commitment to fostering intergovernmental collaboration and dialogue among Mediterranean and Gulf nations. Their engagement at the Forum highlighted CGS’s role in addressing shared economic and environmental challenges. This involvement underscored the Forum’s significance as a platform for shaping regional policy and promoting sustainable development through technological advancements and innovations.

A noteworthy aspect of the Forum was the dedicated briefing session that covered the outcomes of the Extended Advisory Board of the PAM Women Parliamentary Forum. During this session, a cooperation agreement was signed between PAM and the Parliamentary Network of Women Parliamentarians in Africa and the Arab World, further advancing efforts to support women’s participation in parliamentary processes.

One of the pivotal sessions, “Entrepreneurship in a Digital World and the Challenge of AI,” was presided over by Hon. Pedro Roque, PAM Vice President and President Emeritus of PAM. In his address, Hon. Roque underscored PAM and CGS’s unwavering commitment to these critical issues through collaboration with stakeholders and international organizations, notably with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and its Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED).

Additionally,  CGS team, presented the Center’s latest initiatives, including developing a report on the malicious use of Artificial Intelligence. the team stressed the urgent need to address potential threats from AI misuse, focusing on the significant implications for security, privacy, and ethical standards. The Center for Global Studies’ efforts emphasize the need for thorough regulations and safeguards to manage these risks.

The Center for Global Studies (CGS) remains dedicated to advancing peace, security, and ethical standards. CGS’s participation in the Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum reaffirmed its shared commitment with PAM and its partners to promote sustainable development and prosperity in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
