PAM and CGS at the Spring Meetings in Washington

PAM and CGS began their participation in the 2024 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, DC, discussing how to address global challenges in terms of increasing the necessary financing solutions, encouraging private sector investments, and enhancing the ability to address future shocks. The Spring Meetings will include government officials from different countries and country governors at the World Bank Group and private sector companies, academics, and civil society organizations to discuss international efforts towards enhancing cooperation to achieve sustainable development and poverty eradication.

It is vital to stress that the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings are critical when the world faces interrelated and complex challenges, primarily geopolitical and climate change and food security issues. This also requires developing a clear global vision that can overcome poverty and strengthen the role of international financial institutions in supporting the efforts of emerging countries to achieve development, address challenges, and withstand shocks.

CGS team, Secretary General of PAM, and Hon. Giulio Centemero, PAM Vice-President, attended the 2024 Global Parliamentary Forum (GPF), co-organized by the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF (PN). The Forum convenes legislators from around the world and senior leadership from the World Bank and IMF to share knowledge and best practices in development. This year’s event, themed “Multiple Global Challenges: Action for Impact,” focuses on the perfect storm of intertwining challenges that are putting prosperity out of reach for millions across the globe. Topics include AI, the climate-fragility nexus, IDA, debt, governance, and gender, with the launch of a new Women MP Initiative.
